In the late 1980s I was hunting alone , staying at the Berrymill pond lean-to in the Pharoah mountain wilderness. I hiked in friday night , saturday morning I entered the woods not more than 100yards from the lean-to. When I had that horrible feeling I was being watched.

That feeling did not go away., under those conditions it was useless to remain and deer hunt. It did unnerve me. My background at that time was, I was a member of the Army National guard , round out brigade of the 10th Mountain division. Well versed in wilderness survival, land navigation day or night. This day was like no other, of all the time spend bushwacking and roaming around off trail. I never had that feeling. I went back to lean-to, and puttered around set up a hammock and enjoyed the rest of the day and night.

Until around midnight., I woke up to a blood curdling sound coming from across the pond. I know there is no trails in that area and its about 3-4 miles to a nearest road in that direction. My first impression was it sounded like a crazed man from an insane asylum standing and screaming., yet without the tell tail signs of a human voice. At that point I slapped in a 30 round magazine., not for hunting of course., but for just such an occasion.

At that point from what I heard., I felt 30 rounds would never do the trick., they would find my body with shells casings around it. Things subsided later on., the screaming stopped I ended up saying the hell with it., I’m not moving until morning. It took me 8 years to return after that experience. I never did see anything., just the horrible feeling., then the scream later on.

How do you know that was Bigfoot. My wife Marsha screams like that all the time.
