The legend of Bigfoot is one that has endured for many years. However, the word legend may not do the creature justice.
Bigfoot was a pop cultural phenomenon during the 1970’s and anyone who remembers tuning in to programs like IN SEARCH OF or THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN surely felt a kinship with the misunderstood creature.
However, while the 1970’s were the peak of the creature’s fame, Bigfoot had been sighted long before the Me Generation and continues to be spotted well into the modern day. Actually, there are many lesser known facts about Bigfoot that are well worth looking at:
Bigfoot did not get his name until 1957 after a newswire story reported large, humanoid footprints were found alongside a construction site. Plaster of Paris molds of the huge footprints were made and this started the rumors that an ape-man was lurking in the Pacific Northwest woods. While this story was national news, the legend of the creature dated back hundreds of years in Native American folklore.
In the early 20th century, there were two tabloid reports of “ape men” throwing rocks at a miner’s cabin in the legendary “Ape Canyon” tale. In addition, there were reports of a man kidnapped by ape creatures and then released after several days.
Then, in 1945, a report of a bizarre, deformed “Grizzly Bear” also circulated through local Pacific Northwest newspapers. However, it was not until 1957 that the legend became true international news. Ironically, 1957 was also a year of great intrigue over the search for The Abominable Snowman in Tibet.
Then, in 1967, explorers Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlim filmed what appeared to be a female Bigfoot walking on a creek bed in Bluff Creek, CA. The short 16mm film became one of the most shocking film clips of its day. A black and white still of it appeared in Argosy Magazine in 1968 and this captured people’s imaginations like nothing else.
In 1975, the entire film aired in the drive-in motion picture THE MYSTERIOUS MONSTERS and this further fueled interest in the creature. By the late 1970’s, hundreds of Bigfoot books, magazine, print, radio, and television news reports appeared. Eventually, this lead to burnout and the creature’s media appearances continued on a much, much smaller scale in the 1980s.
However, what was (is) Bigfoot? The late Dr. Grover Krantz put forth the notion that Bigfoot creature are the modern day survivors and the previously thought extinct pre-Cro Magnon ape-man, The Gigantopithicus. Krantz was a fixture as an interview subject on multitudes of television programs until his death from Pancreatic Cancer several years ago.
A&E’s 1990 Bigfoot special was one of its highest rated programs and its bestselling videotapes. Many people believe this program is what returned Bigfoot specials to television airwaves after a decade of relative non-presence. In 1972, the success of the film THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK helped raise the public’s awareness of the Bigfoot creatures living outside of the Pacific Northwest.
However, is Bigfoot truly a relic of the past? No, hundreds upon hundreds of Bigfoot sighting have been reported over the past 10 years. Several films of alleged Bigfoot creatures have been made as well.

A question for everyone, if bigfoot is real, how come there are no bones ever found? To the owner of the site, I like the concept of the site. I like the fact it is more investigative then pro or con on the subject of bigfoot.

well how would anybody really know if bigfoot was real or not? we found the giant squid and that was a legend. so before we be making comments of whats real or not think please. im not getting on you about ur opinion or anything but please think first. but u know, opinions are like a*******, everybody has one.
Anna how can you be so sure? New types of species are being found all the time around the world and deep in our oceans.

Hi Camy! I personally do not claim Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti is real or not, but like you find the topic very interesting.
So I decided to use this site as an open forum, for both believers and non to discuss their points of view on the “elusive creature”.
i think bigfoot is real and the people that have been found in costumes are trying to throw pochers and sceintests of his track because they belive he is real and jamie i disgree and anna how are u so sure hes fake there have been so many sightings and vids
I found Bigfoot is one of those website who talk about reality. I know people do not believe after reading it but they have to accept that there can be a reality beyond their imagination.Overall it’s a great work ..!
I am pretty sure that there are many creatures that are still unkown to the scientists, because they haven t been seen, captured and studied. Probably BigFoot (just as Yeti, or the monster of Loch Ness) has acquired this status of ‘mystery’ because we don t have an irrefutable proof that they exist.
Anyway, it will remain one of the biggest mysteries in the world!

I feel a bit sceptic about existance of bigfoot. Well, atleast until some bones or any other serious proofs are found. But I don’t say no and don’t argue with people believing in this, there’s always a chance that such creature exist

Well, as far as I am concerned, BF is real. We have video recordings and sightseeings. I just don’t like some non-believers shout too much. And I can’t understand why the story of “believe” started anyway when we have profs that BF IS REAL.

I’m a person that likes to get in too this kind of stuff. I believe in Bigfoot.and also believe in ufo’s lochness ect-. And i don’t think someone would be going around in a costume in the woods just trying to scare people. And about some of you guy’s talking about bones?………………… I mean Monkey and human bones are the same. There’s been encounters of people being hurt by this creature. There’s been encounters when people had their cars torn in half? And finally i do very much believe in BF!

I believe that Bigfoot is real. I have recorded sightings as well as foot prints. So to the non-believers get the facts before you say he/she does not exist.

To answer the questions of many on this site and around the country, i.e… If there is such thing as a Bigfoot, why hasn’t been any bones or bodies found? Well, let’s look at this realistically. If humans did not bury their dead in marked graves and in collective places, how many human bones would you find? We protect and preserve our dead. These creatures do not. However, they do bury their dead. If you take a fresh animal body and lay it on the ground in the woods, it is almost completely gone in under a week, dependant on the weather and scavengers in the area. If you bury an animal body under the ground in the woods unprotected, it is gone in half the time. Decomposition is extremely accelerated.
And, there have been numerous hair samples, skin samples, bones and even teeth found to suggest the existence of Bigfoot. The problem is, there is just simply nothing to compare them to. Therefore, they are just marked “unidentifiable” by modern science.
As an avid woodsman, I have tracked, hunted and even killed every type of big game in North America. In 45 years, I have run across two dear skulls and one big cat skull in the wilderness. Miles upon miles of traveling through the woods and a grand total of three animal remains. And I knew what I was looking for!
Try to think of the Bigfoot species as a species with the intellect equal to or greater than man-kind. Think of it as the perfect species that has become 100% compatible with its surroundings and smart enough to understand the man-kind pretty much destroys everything he touches. Then you will better understand why you do not have a Bigfoot in a zoo cage on display… Have you ever seen a baby pigeon? Me either! But I am most certain that they exist. I once saw bigfoot riding a unicorn while I was flying atop a dragon. Please people, take a mammalogy class before you make ignorant comments about a fictional tall tale character.I don’t mind people having fun with the bigfoot myth but please don’t apply false science to your comments.
Bigfoot was seen hear in whiteriver AZ not to long ago like 3-4 weeks ago guess he walked right across the raod when two people were driving up from the fish hatchery like at 7 in the morning and there was another citing at chrimas tree lake a couple years ago most recent on was 3-4 weeks ago though.

Many people witnessed bigfoot before and there are a lot of photo on bigfoot that people uploaded to Internet. Therefore, no doubt the Bidfoot is actually exist and maybe you will meet ‘it’ too one day!
I think bigfoot is exist, but it seems no one can provide proofs to prove it. The key is that we need to find a real bigfoot, this is most important thing
the big foot story is probably just an imaginative story because if its true, for sure a lot of scientists or groups will never stop hunting for it. although i believe that there are still creatures in the world human had not yet discovered.

There are millions of unexplained things on this Earth. Now for the people that say they need proof, completely understandable. I am going on a little bit of faith myself. But I think that you will agree with me, some of these posts that are here in this site sound like they were written by the big guy himself. Some of these people need to retake an English class or at least have a grammer lesson. LOL.
The main thing we need to remember is, that these animals are smart enough to stay hidden, smart enough to stay away from Human Beings since we pretty much destroy everything we touch. Like Mark said earlier in this thread, “that is why you do not see one in the zoo.” They know that wew would hunt them to exstinction, so why even let us know that they exist. Keep it elusive, and mystrious. Let the humans think that only the crazies have seen us. This is why people are scared to report a sighting they are afraid of the reprocussions, and the ramifications of such actions deter them from reporting what they see. Or maybe some people are smart enought to let them go, knowing that we would be killing the link to our past. If I ever saw one I would not report it, I would let it be and just observe, makng sure no one would hurt them. This is why I praise organizations TBRC, they are comitted to researching and protecting these creatures.

after having relatives who lived in oregon national forest,
and after going through all of the film/pics ,
everything i tested was faked, or a mistake ,,

Bigfoot is real because if you have watched a Bigfoot show a grown man can’t make a print in gravel you would have to weigh 1,000 pounds no 1,000. No one can flip a tree up side down.I believe in Bigfoot!
