Bigfoot is a tall, hairy, ape-like biped being that likes to live away from people in wooded areas or mountains. There have been Bigfoot sightings for hundreds of years.
But, in 1967, two men named Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin captured a girl Bigfoot on video and more and more people have had sightings of their own.
Why Do They Call Him Bigfoot?
The name Bigfoot came from a bulldozer operator named Jerry Crew in 1958. When he found a large footprint on his construction site, he called it, “the tracks of old Bigfoot.”
Other Names for Bigfoot
Sasquatch is the name Native Americans gave Bigfoot and it is what they call Bigfoot in Canada. In other countries like Nepal and Tibet, they call him Yeti or The Abominable Snowman. The names are different but they are the same type of creature.
Where Has Bigfoot Been Seen?
Bigfoot has been spotted all over the world. People often see Bigfoot in wooded areas or high in the mountains. Hunters, campers, hikers and people who live in the woods are often the ones to report Bigfoot sightings.
What Does Bigfoot Eat?
Bigfoot is an omnivore. This means he eats both plants and animals. Researchers say Bigfoot eats nuts, berries, fish and deer.
How Tall is Bigfoot?
He’s anywhere from 6-10 feet tall.
What Does Bigfoot Weigh?
Bigfoot is heavy. He weighs up to 500 pounds!
How Does Bigfoot Act?
Bigfoot is shy. He likes to live with others of his own kind but doesn’t like being around people. He doesn’t like to have his picture taken so it’s hard to get him on film.
Bigfoot talks to each other by making loud calls across long distances.
Does Bigfoot Hurt People?
No, Bigfoot doesn’t try to hurt people on purpose. Sometimes though, when people accidentally wander into his territory, he’s been known to throw rocks at them to frighten them away. Bigfoot isn’t trying to be mean. He’s just trying to protect his home and family.
Is There Any Real Proof Bigfoot Exists?
Videos
The most famous video is the Patterson-Gimlin film from 1967. To date, scientists have still been unable to prove it’s a fake. If you want to see Bigfoot videos, ask your parents if you can do a search on You Tube. Some are just pranks but some are real.
Pictures
There are lots of pictures of Bigfoot out there. Some of the pictures are of people playing a joke and dressing up in a gorilla suit and some are the real thing.
Recordings
Bigfoot talk to each other by making a certain type of low, loud call that no other animal makes. Some of these calls have been recorded on tape.
Hair Samples
Bigfoot has a thick coat of long fur that’s usually black, brown or red in color. People who search for Bigfoot have collected some of his hair samples.
Footprints
Many Bigfoot footprints found in the snow, sand or mud have been preserved in plaster.
Bigfoot is a creature which has been seen throughout the world for hundreds of years. He’s tall, hairy and shy and people aren’t sure if he’s real or not since absolutely no one has ever caught one. There has been all kinds of Bigfoot sightings throughout the years.
